The useful machine is the machine plus control, options, workholding, tooling, coolant or extraction, metrology, software, postprocessor, training, power, air and service. Missing pieces can cost more than the apparent discount.

Document before committing

Record the exact model, serial number, control version, option list, spindle and taper, axis travels, table or chuck capacity, electrical requirements, machine weight, included tooling and known defects. Save listing photographs and seller statements.

Research the exact model

Support and parts

Investigate documentation, local service, control support, replacement parts, software, postprocessors and owner communities. A capable machine can still be a bad purchase if downtime is difficult to resolve.

Separate model reputation from the condition of the actual machine. Inspection, service history, geometry, options and included tooling matter more than a familiar badge.
